OUR HISTORY

Come See, Come Learn, Come Experience History

The Vancouver Island Military Museum (VIMM) is one of the West Coast’s most
significant military history institutions, and has been volunteer-run since its
beginnings in 1986. For four decades, the museum has been dedicated to preserving
Canadian (and specifically Vancouver Island, Nanaimo) military history through
engaging exhibits, featuring artifacts and memorabilia from the War of 1812 right
through to Canada’s involvement in Afghanistan. VIMM shares the human experience
of war, inviting audiences to engage with Canadian military history in meaningful ways.

VIMM is a non-profit, charitable organization that brings Canadian military heritage
to life for thousands of visitors each year. One of the museum’s core purposes is to
provide learning opportunities for the public, which includes: educating the public
through tours, demonstrations, engaging exhibits, and public programming for all
ages. VIMM’s ability to run these programs relies on its dedicated volunteer base.
